Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE)
On December 19, 2014, the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act was passed by a majority in the U.S. Senate after also passing in the House earlier in December. In 2015, the Nevada Legislature passed S.B. 419 to authorize my office to implement the Nevada ABLE Program, which will provide eligible Nevada individuals with disabilities a tax advantaged way to save and accumulate assets exempt from the means-tested Medicaid or Supplemental Security Income programs.
My office has been working hard to bring a high-quality, low-cost program to Nevada through our participation in the newly created, 13 state National ABLE Alliance and we plan to have it up and running by the end of the first calendar quarter in 2017. We look forward to the implementation of this program and what it will mean for our families in Nevada.
